THE VILLAN - 

• antagonist 
• psychotic
• seducer
• renegade
• narcissist 
• traitor
• destroyer 
• deserter 

THE HERO - 

• must be believable 
• realistic 
• must change through the film - become a stronger person 
• must have a weakness and out show this 
• must learn throughout the film 
• must have empathy and sympathy 
• brave 
• must overcome conflicts and obstacles 
• must be interesting 

THE ADVERSARY -

• e.g Henry, Goodfellas 1990, Dory, finding Nemo 
• can dislike the hero 
• can work against hero 
• no a villan 
• doesn't oppose hero 
• puts obstacles in hers way 
• cynical 
• never personal 
• annoying  

THE SYMBOLIC -

• represent something important to hero
• could be heroes past (Darth Vader)
• the ghost (Donnie Darko, fight club)
• the idol 
• the shadow 

THE LOVER AND THE BEST FRIEND 

• mutual bond and affection 
• mentor/lover
