Monologue 150
- The characters ethics; she seems to care about her mum and shows that in the pauses in each sentence, the character says the character talks a lot abut her mum and family members which indicates she has emotion and cares for their safety, she makes decisions that appear well planned with the dates and times, she doesn't like to leave her mum alone, but she also seems free spirited and makes decisions based on what she wants to do e.g. she and her girlfriend bought two tickets to the wild west to get away and have fun
- The characters decision proves to be unwise as her decision to leave the bar with a man ends up in a bad situation, feeling stupid and uncomfortable when the atmosphere changes
- The main charter seems to want to get away fro her life at home, it seems she has a girlfriend and her mother disapproves, or downs understand. Her motivation to get away is her girlfriend, she wants a different life, one where she doesn't have to always worry about her mother and her depression. She thinks of her mum often and that laving would do to her, but needs to follow her own dreams and get away. The monolog has two different outcomes, either the mother is the murderer and her daughter wants t get away to live a more normal life, r the daughter wants to get away from what she has done an always has the memory of her pat though her disappointed mother.
- Her actions and behaviour have effected her mothers life, her mother seems week and relies on her daughter for support, but when the daughter leaves, the mother doesn't understand or approve of her decisions and follows her. The daughters actions effects the mothers depression and maybe even triggers it. Her and her girlfriends actions effect people they meet; when they travel to Texas (away from the mother) they went shy to hide who they are and this way attract unwinding attention, they start meeting some men and when the atmosphere changes they realise they may have made this mistake.
- A frequently used word in this monolog would be disappointed, this is described as the characters mother. It frequently states that the mother doesn’t approve f her daughters life and becomes more and more disappointed as the story progresses, the mother then develops depression, and this may have been caused from the disappointment.
- clocks and the time is a major factor in the characters life, she seems very anal about her timing and planning, she describes how long she is away for and try to persuade herself that it isn't very long. at the beginning of the monolog she says “the clock reached 150 today…a slightly odd milestone…especially as it is going backwards” this shows me that the time is making her feel as if it is going backwards from all the pressure from her mother and her girlfriend. Throughout the monolog there is references back to the time, this may effect the person she is and her state of mind, because there is always a pressure on her to be by her mums side and to look after her without disappointment.
- In this monolog the character never states that she is in a lesbian relationship, but the message is clear. Her mother does not approve, she doesn't understand and the daughter wants to run away with her girlfriend and live the life she wants away from the pressure of a mother who relies on her too much.
- The character is speaking, she is explaining the story; staring with her mothers disappointment and depression, she then moves on to go away with her girlfriend, she has fun and lives the life she wanted, she then meets some men who know the situation and can see they are uninterested in sex. The story then changes, the change has already happened as the story is being told, the atmosphere changes and the story becomes dark; the character knows what is about to happen but is trying to shrug it off. The monolog ends as the conflict and change is about to start.
- The context of this story tells me it is in the past, the character has a female partner and the word lesbian is never brought up. The character wants the reader to ‘read between the lines’ about her relationship and this is made clear when she talks about her mothers disappointment and nature towards it.
