History of fashion film

The History Of Fashion Film

Fashion companies make short films, typically one to five minutes long and are produced for the Internet. Sometimes they sell the product and sometimes are just a visually exciting experiment in design.
The creation of fashion films inspired some of the best names in fashion: Miuccia Prada, Giorgio Armani and Yves Saint Laurent, and the Italian brand Tod's made "Pashmy Dream," a short film written and directed by Dennis Hopper and starring Gwyneth Paltrow, about her fame and her . https://youtu.be/aQHBNdy9bpE 2009.

"Fashion films are definitely taking hold," said Jason Campbell, founder of the trend bureau JC Report, which is based in Paris and has previewed "A Shaded View on Fashion" on its Web site, jcreport.com. "It's reaching tipping point. They are the freshest way to grab attention for your brand."
According to Penny Martin, professor of fashion imagery at the London College of Fashion, the history of fashion film stretches back to the 1950s, when Erwin Blumenfeld began experimenting with motion picture cameras. The crossover continued through the 1970s in the hands of Guy Bourdin and Richard Avedon.
Nick Knight's Showstudio.com Web site has, since 2000, been the go-to place to view the artistic wave of fashion film, including Knight's own work, like his 24HRS project last year for Saint Laurent - 24 scenes filmed and broadcast live in real time over 24 hours for a collection called Edition 24. Besides Knight, there are 400 contributors to Showstudio.
Shurmer, of Spring69, added: "The Internet is the largest shop window in the world. Fashion film is needed to draw in consumers."Designers can push their creativity far beyond what's possible on the catwalk and consumers can get a real feel for the clothes - not just the way they look, but how they fit and move on the body."

Hybrid - initial drawing and hair ideas

Hybrid - human/Cassowary

This is my initial idea of the face structure of my hybrid character

Face chart No1
  • Prosthetic beak, made up of two pieces, one over the nose and another over the bottom lip, to ensure the model can breathe
  • slight prosthetics added to the side of the face to bring out the eye area
  • feathers and makeup added to whole face to ensure the cassowary look!
  • blue, yellow, green, purple, turquoise
  • Prosthetic added to top of the nose and leading up towards the forehead to elongate the area

Face chart No2
  • Prosthetics added to either side of the face to accentuate the cheek bones and to bring out the eye area
  • large piece adde to the top of the nose leading up to forehead to elongate the head
  • prosthetic beak
  • feathers down neck and on chest
  • colouration using, blue, red, yellow, green and pink

For the hair:
  • I used padding to help make the hair stand up high above the head
  • I will need to use products to smooth and sleek the hair, tis will enable no stray hairs
  • I wanted to keep the bad more messy because the feathers of a bird can sometimes be erratic and thick

Inspiring images - Hybrid

Below is a collection of images that have inspired me to think more deeply about the makeup practices in my hybrid creation. I would like to include some of the experimented designs in my final one, such as; feathers on the eye brows to define shape whilst being realistic to the texture. The second image shows skill in defining the little hairs around the eyes, the colour and the pattern is very neat and perfected.

This image has inspired me to think about the special effects makeup I will use for my hybrid design, I love the accentuated cheek bones and forehead. I will sketch some designs and find the best way to incorporate this idea, as it will change the shape of the face in the way I want in to for the Cassowary bird.

Cassowary-Profile, hair inspiration

The Cassowary - Profile

I have chosen to look at the side profile of the Cassowary because it will help me to understand how to style the hair. I want the design to incorporate the hair so that it shapes the large part of the head of the Cassowary bird. They come in different shapes, I will use my time now to practice with different hair styles to find the most aesthetically pleasing design that matches the style of the Cassowary.

Research for my Hybrid Character

My Hybrid - The Cassowary

This is a youtube video showing the basics to making a beak for a human, I will expand in this and make the near fit the requirements for my bird. https://youtu.be/mKBW3EEtwHI

Sophie Le Lievre

Was a student studying at London College of Art, hoping to become involved with making costumes. After getting involved with the technical arts she found her love of creating, she says with help from her tutors she was able to find her passion in life and create some amazing pieces of artistry makeup including this image below.

The bird beak
This prosthetic piece has inspired me to think about how to create my own interpretation of a Cassowary beak. I understand that I might not be able to create something very big as the timescale may be an issue, but I will use my skills to practice how to create a bird beak such as thins or one closer to the appearance of a Cassowary.

Other inspiring images I have found:
  • As my bird, the Cassowary has a large head piece, a large and extended beak and large eyes I want to experiment with different sized pieces of silicone to get a close face shape on my human design.
  • I understand this is a hybrid animal but I want the character to retain some humanlike features or personality traits; the first image shows enlarged cheek bones and forehead, I like this idea and want to create two large pieces to bring out the sides of the face and enlarge the cheeks bones, this will be to accentuate the look of a feathered face and bring out the shape of the eyes like cat eyes

This is a profile shot of the Cassowary bird I have taken the inspiration of
from for my Hybrid character; I will use my skills to discover a way I can recreate the head piece and lengthen the beak. This is not an overly feathery bird so most I can do with colouration and makeup, but I want to use some feathers to make the design look more slightly more realistic.

face and hair charts for my monolog character

My character design

For my monolog character I wanted to show her personality and characteristics through her appearance, she is wearing a white vest and is on death row. For her face I want to keep the makeup to a minimum, as my research shows not many inmates have makeup who are on death row, and probably don't care about those things. I wanted to make the character look realistic so I have decided to use light makeup to make the eyes look tired, the skin look less clear and the lips are darker and dryer than original. For the hair, I have decided to also keep this realistic, and add a french plait on the right side of the head.

CAREER
Then one weekend a friend asked me to make his girlfriend up as a sexy tiger. I thought, 'Why not?' because I already had all my paints with me. And then I realized, 'Hang on, she looks alright! Maybe it doesn't have to be for kids!' Then it became a word of mouth thing and I started getting real makeup jobs. I did my first fashion shoot with for i-D Magazine with the photographer Matthew Stone. I wasn't really into fashion and I didn't know what I was doing—or even what i-D really was—but Matthew asked me to come and do some body painting to turn these boys into gods and deities, painted in clay...and naked. It was just an amazing experience and I suppose that everything sort of really took off from there. Although, there was a while where I just felt like a professional genital painter. I did one willy and suddenly everyone was like, 'She's fine, she'll paint willies!' So I just kept getting asked to. I have one-use brushes now—I don't want to contaminate the makeup!

The Chameleon

The Chameleon

These species come in a range of colours, and many species have the ability to change colours. Chameleons are distinguished by their zygodactylous feet; their very long, highly modified, rapidly extrudable tongues; their swaying gait; and crests or horns on their brow and snout. Most species, the larger ones in particular, also have a prehensile tail. Chameleons' eyes are independently mobile, but in aiming at a prey item, they focus forward in coordination, affording the animal stereoscopic vision. Chameleons are adapted for climbing and visual hunting. They live in warm habitats that range from rain forest to desertconditions, various species occurring in Africa, Madagascar, southern Europe, and across southern Asia as far as Sri Lanka
