Making my prosthetic burnt mark

Burnt Mark Prosthetic

How to:
  • Using the wire cutter, cut a small piece of clay and place it onto a small flat plastic dish
  • using the tools provided mould the clay into the desired shape, use scraper tools and cutting tools to form the tape of a burnt mark, with inspiration from real medical photographs
  • ensure the ends of the mould are completely flat and smooth to the plastic dish, this will be part of what makes the design look real, as edges will show up on camera
  • using a textured surface like a lemon or orange, print the pattern onto the clay to give the impression of pours, tis will also add to the realism of the design
  • once finished make a border using clay about a centimetre away from the design

This is the beginning of my design for my prosthetic burt mark, I have taken inspiration from real images of healed burn scars, and I have also been looking at fresh burns to get an idea of how the burn looked before it healed, I am then able to predict what it would look like with healed tissue. I am finding it hard to create a realistic looking burn mark without it looking like a pattern. I want the design to be natural, as if someone had thrown a small amount of acid onto the face. To make sure it is realistic I will now test with water what happens when it is thrown at the face, I will also take into consideration that after the acid was thrown the person would quickly try to wipe it off, causing the acid bun to travel and smudge into a larger area.
